Bicyclists*** Reason #1 to move
I've spent a lot of time in cities in the US and Europe, and no thanks on living in one no matter the accommodation.
SoCal was once an idyll.
I follow Alan's point though: I would pay non-trivial money for a door or four in my house that teleported to certain nice and/or useful places. Some high(er) paying F2F work. A nice(r) place to garden. A bomb shelter under a mountain. A gym on the moon!
OTOH, cities have
. Museums
. Cultural arts
. Jazz clubs [showing
]
. Nice/varied restaurants
. Rare books shops
. Research facilities and libraries
. Sports facilities with expensive specialized equipment
. Hospitals, clinics, doctors aplenty
. Universities [runs for cover]
And cars have wheels: I can visit any time I like!
Budapest and Prague eliminate most of your complaints
Still full of people, though, which counts as pollution.
I'm just thinking back to my grandparent's place in Islip and imagining it being taken over by Manhattan refugees. Nah, they'd tear it down for a McMansion.
