my stance is exactly the opposite: idle hands do the devil's work, and most people who have "50 hour per week" jobs actually work 15-20 hours per week (max) ...and spend the rest of that "at work" time virtue signally on social mediahttps://twitter.com/Empty_America/status/1503386359276478464 …

4/ Some folks say that if we destroy the entire "social safety net", people will be reduced to begging in the streets. I respond "yes ... and most of those cut off from free cash would prefer to work than beg, so...win, win"

7/ off in the direction of the Paul Graham advice to founders: do stuff that DOESN'T scale. no one can "solve hunger" ... but if you see one actually hungry person, you can help themhttps://twitter.com/chiropraxy/status/1503410893782228994 …

I’ve often said to bosses that I’m far more productive when we are 80-90% busy than 50%. I’d rather be given enough extra work that I have to be productive and efficient to accomplish it all.

To be fair... I do work much harder on my weekends than I do during the work week. Much of my time is just spent being "available" or waiting for some multi-day bureaucratic process to finally allow me to do 15 minutes of work

I suspect part of this is a failure in workplace management too. Like, if you had talented managers directing work to goals you could have folks work as long as it takes to complete that goal. This feels more natural too… we worked to achieve goals and rested when reached.

Hunter-gatherer? Hunt and gather till you have Enough (better tribes manage Enough more accurately,) and I’m guessing similar to farming, in that its a set of distinct things to complete. Very different from free-floating hourly jobs.
