HOA thread but "read the contract" applies to non-HOA areas that have zoning codes
I found my dream house / farm (the one I'm in now) back in fall 2013. I was about to put in an offer ...but first I found the town's zoning map and zoning code online, and read it >https://twitter.com/VarangianSkull/status/1501574250037141509 …

4/ Correct, I'm not arguing. I'm making a different thread w a different point > you quote RT literally everything he says I quoted 2 tweets out of the 6 in his thread 1/3 isn't "literally everything" > it's weird trying to shame me as an outlier? https://twitter.com/nefarious121/status/1501575607372718088 …

This is also the logic for unions

Yeah, but states don't usually enforce contracts to restrict supply to raise prices because they are net harm to society.

I now have some insight into which Aristillus characters you *don't* fully agree with.

When I was house hunting for my first home I knew damn well I wanted to avoid HOAs. So I... looked exclusively in neighborhoods without HOAs. Reduced my available options, sure, but I found a perfect house anyway.
-
I'd be a massive asshole to move into a neighborhood KNOWING there was an HOA and then attempt to ignore the rules that *everyone else* agreed to or to depose the HOA and return to suburban anarchy or something.

I have this perspective on unions. Unions can be wonderful examples of voluntary association It can also be some coercive bs. Both exist

I can't wrap my head around how HOAs stay in force. I guess the members are legally prevented from selling to new owners who don't agree to the terms of the HOA? Since it's no longer alienable, it doesn't seem like conventional property at that point.

many of the most acrimonious political disputes end up cashing out as a disagreement over what terms should be allowed in contracts

Its is however fair to argue that there exists an external market distortion which results in more HOAs than would exist under strict buyer preference equilibrium which is likely what the QTed person is actually referring to under the hyperbole (note the reference to Phoenix)
