1/ went out to dinner w wife a few days ago and got pretty mediocre service not malevolent ; just incompetent ...and I've seen more and more of this over the last 20 years. I assume that a 105 IQ is more than enough to serve food competently so I've got a theory >>>

My theory is that everyone with the intelligence to make a good waiter/waitress gets pushed by the system into going to college for a useless degree, and then end up being a waiter/waitress in whatever town they went to school in because they can't afford to move back.

social phenomena are almost never monocausal. To the list, I’ll add demographic change (on average the population is dumber because it’s drawn from a different pool). FWIW, within my small city observable demographics explains >75% of differences in my experienced order errors.
