2/ how did he "crowd out" smaller artists? were their kickstarters pushed off of the website? can people not back two kickstarters in the same month? would they have done better if he sold his book via bookstores?https://twitter.com/OceanSleepy/status/1500162558921162760 …

Sleepy Ocean Blue @OceanSleepyReplying to @MorlockPPer my writer's group: less about money, it was the fact that he used Kickstarter, which is known for being a place where smaller artists and groups raise funds. Don't let him crowd out smaller authors!? The other question was: what will he do with all the money? Fund a film?8 replies 0 retweets 46 likesShow this thread -

3/ my take too I bet 1/3 or so of the people backing Sanderson's KS have never backed anything on the platform before. Now they're there, and they're realizing "wait, there are BOOKS here? GOOD ones?!?!". Good for all of us.https://twitter.com/KarlKGallagher/status/1500165797326598144 …

5/ strong agree when I started writing the Aristillus novels in 2011, I picked up a few writing magazines, looked at a few writing groups, looked into courses ... and realized that there were all procrastination tools to help one NOT writehttps://twitter.com/robkroese/status/1500166603912237058 …

Karl K. Gallagher @KarlKGallagherReplying to @MorlockPBut if you don't belong to a writer group, you'll never have the pleasure of hearing someone say your story should be completely rewritten and then telling him, "The deadline for the anthology was last week, so it was already submitted, and the editor has accepted it."1 reply 0 retweets 10 likesShow this thread -

Conventions are (largely, not wholly) to this point too. I go to conventions to see authors I am friendly with and buy indie geek art, not for panels on writing I’ve heard before and could probably present. For the just starting artists this calculus is different.

Replying to @Mr_Boffin @MorlockP
Now, if cons actually offered panels on business side - formatting, doing a kickstarter, fullfillmemt, advertising - that would be more widely useful.
