Big eye opener doing some work in a state psych hospital and learning that many patients were on that homeless-jail-hospital-jail-homeless etc etc conveyor belt. Very cruel system. Reintroduction of asylums would likely be better for (almost) all.

California laws forced the creation of a homeless shelter in our town if we wanted to have police move homeless out of public areas. We made one. Fairly nice too, private rooms and food provided. The homeless won't go to it.

That's not an asylum. Homeless and/or crazy people go to libraries (voluntarily) because they can hang out all day there. Asylums OTOH are prisons. Very different.
