1/ in science fiction novels and TTRPGs there are three common models of FTL: (a) point-to-point from any location to any other location (b) point-to-point from any star to any other (c) undirected graph (i.e. some possible connections exist between stars, some don't)

2/ These 3 choices are multiplied by 2 "cost" scenarios: (a) all jumps are equal cost (in fuel / time / whatever) (b) jumps have a cost that is somewhere between linear and squared of real-world distance This gives 6 different ways to construct a fictional universe.

3/ Star Wars is point-to-point, same cost (I think). Star Trek is point-to-point, different [ time ] cost. Forever War is star [ or rather, collapsar ] to star, different [ time ] cost. Traveller is ...I forget? star to star? graph? Niven's Known Space is graph >>>

5/ Last night I had an idea pop into my head, and I don't think I've ever seen it before: DIRECTED graphs what if you can travel from Sol to Alpha Centauri, but not the reverse? or, perhaps, Sol -> AC @ cost 1, AC -> Sol @ cost 2
