7/ all of my absolute worst experiences in life have come from forced interactions all of my best experiences in life have come from voluntarily sorting into small like minded circles the draft, the DMV, being beaten by middle school bullies: forced friends & marriage: chosen

8/ no, we share exactly the same frame the only kind of person who would say something like this > being 'forced' to sit on the subway with a bunch of other people you'd otherwise never encounter. is someone who thinks their preferences are universalhttps://twitter.com/illiteralworst/status/1499396597624492032 …

i think you have the wrong frame for 'forced'. you can get from chelsea to the upper west side however you like, but if you wanna go faster, there's tremendous value in being 'forced' to sit on the subway with a bunch of other people you'd otherwise never encounter.

I think there's a middle ground. My youngest's school makes us stand in line to pick up our kids. It's annoying, but I meet other parents and a few of my kid's classmates. Without standing in line, that WOULD NOT HAPPEN. There's no other way to intentionally meet these parents.

But... you can also self-sort out of this interaction by having your kid ride the bus.
