All those deaths can almost certainly be chalked up to “they fucked around and found out”

Strongly suspect they avoided using the word "murder" for weaselly reasons because they always include suicides in "homicide" as well as self defense uses.

From the paper: >The main outcomes were statewide monthly rates of homicide and firearm-related homicide (per 100 000 persons) from January 1, 1999, to December 31, 2017... Hard to square this given that national homicide rate was declining or held 'steady' during that time.

Here's a big one, also from the paper: >Between 1999 and 2017, trends in monthly homicide and firearm homicide rates varied between states and did not follow simple linear trends. 1/2

You don't even hard to look hard to see that the murder rate in FL has been steady or lower virtually every year that we have data on record, including pre/post SYG. This analysis fades on simple empirical analysis. Source http://www.fdle.state.fl.us/FSAC/Documents/PDF/1971_fwd_murder_firearms.aspx … Plenty more info there toopic.twitter.com/pqEQaxd4bM

Population, murders, murders per 100k. Do I spy a 1 year "lull" in murders being responsible for the entire "massive jump"? Yes, Yes I do.

Bad guys chose an action with a number of possible suboptimal outcomes, including their own death. Not a choice I’d have made, but their body, their choice. Who are we to second guess their reasoning?
