2/ Were you around in the 70s? Bc OP nailed it. Late 70s / early 80s TV was like this. Brady Bunch Hawaii special, Star Wars Christmas Special, Gilligan's Island, Charlie's Angels, Magnum PI, Airwolf, Knight Rider, Riptide, Supertrain...https://twitter.com/giuseppe_aaron/status/1495551590475915267?t=FeBREs3ojtWLUOvntRIkUQ&s=19 …

3/ Riptide was about two detective buddies who solved crimes, plus they had a nerd to help them. Plus the nerd had a robot. And the detectives had a boat named "Riptide". Also, they had a pink Sikorsky S-58T cargo chopper, bc <handwaving> It was AWESOMEhttps://youtu.be/4wvHSbwkWRo

4/ So when
@MuseZack talks about "cop with a monkey in a hangar", this is EXACTLY the kind of madness that they just put on TV without a second thought back then.Show this thread -
5/ Or Supertrain, which was, i think, Loveboat...set on an atomic-powered double-wide cruise TRAIN https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supertrain https://youtu.be/hrot4rRCBwE

6/ Getting back to Riptide, there was a bit on homage to it in s1e7 of Boomtown https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boomtown_(2002_TV_series) … , a really good but under-loved series. In the episode, Joe Penny (of Riptide fame) plays an actor who was in a 1980s TV show (like Riptide) but now manages a sports store.

7/ Watched the pilot live as a 7 year old , back in 1979. Absolutely loved it. Rest of the series was meh.https://twitter.com/gojomo/status/1495574645117886465?t=9ET4yPlgeELWt5cMN6y7kw&s=19 …

Sounds more like USA a la Psych, Monk, or Burn Notice, than CBS to me.
