5/ Watergate was penny ante corruption, the kind that happens in more or less every race. Turning this into a capital-S Scandal was an act of creation and orchestration, with air cover from left wing advocacy groups, law groups, and - of course - mainstream media.

6/ Nixon was brought down by a press that buys ink the the train-tanker full, and had a very very precise political goal. Nixon was not brought down by "getting information in front of the people". W/o a coordinated campaign where 99% of the ink spilled was on the same side...
