In the context of film, I've long thought of the 90s as the beginning of the end. 70s is about the peak of American Hollywood. 80s getting more commercial, but still a lot of good. 90s some highlights, but the beginning of "yeah, it sucks, but we're self aware about it."

Kind of a heap of misgivings. The 90s were the beginning of the current wave of franchise-first movies from what I can tell, but it wasn’t the omnipresent machine it is today. He’s absolutely right about the music, though: the 80s relived through a series of cover bands.
