Why would you get a 5 yr fixed? Go for 30!

This literally does not exist in the UK! 15 is the longest and it’s rare. We are moving to the US this year though so it’s been interesting reading about the diff systems.

30 yr fixed is prob the most common here. It's actually a weird system - you combine housing with a one way bet on future interest rates. (If rates go up, you keep what you have and win, if they go down you can refinance and ratchet down to a lower rate).

The difficulty for us is that we have no credit history in the US so we have to rent until we can build up a credit score.
