3/ "by offering banking in Spanish we make it easier for Spanish speakers to bank" true...but you also lower the incentives to learn English / make it easier for people to NOT learn English... ...and there are externalities to that. Societies are built on commonalities...

5/ I'm not mad, though. The collapse of the US is massively overdetermined. It's not like undoing this one bad idea would help anything. I just use it to elucidated a general principle about incentives at the margin and [ unseen ] externalities.
