Hmm. This may explain why lawyers sometimes rename defined terms. I'm saying, "Dude, we could call it 'ham sandwich,' it doesn't matter." They're not just churning (my usu explanation); they actually can't grok.

Disagree. Having defined terms bear at least some resemblance to the concept they’re supposed to define is just sensible. Someone may later “find” an ambiguity and you want it to convey a plain English meaning as far as possible

If this is accurate, it's terrible. Recursion (the ability to abstract something so that it can be part of itself) is one of the key tools to deal with complexity (think how systems nest control structures). The idea of a person who can't do it (not just not learned to) is sad.
