Excessively Weird individualism is a consequences of the standard being complete cookie cutter it's not a counterpoint against creativity it's the opposite.

Got a houseplan book from just post WW2 (Dover reprint) which has a design for a neighborhood using a single house plan that has add-ons (extra rooms, garage) with the added effect of changing the orientation on each lot and different landscaping. Somebody was thinking of it.

I live in a neighborhood with quite a variety. There is a geodesic dome. I like it, makes walks interesting.

The "individual creativity" of the creator is often oddly some other commercialization, e.g. Barbie dream house, or what have you. I guess it's marginally better than substituting one's sexuality for a personality. At least nobody is trying to push Hummel figurines on me.
