2/ I have a relative who believes that there are no diners outside of NJ. When he asserts this, I tell him that I've heard there's a show called "Dives, Diners, and Drive Thrus" or something where a guy visits diners all over the US. Relative agrees. Still hasn't caught on.

That person was right in a way, but picked the absolute worst set of purchases to illustrate it Bodegas are great when you need to get five random things and don’t want to walk more than three minutes to do so

a lot of what makes bodegas good is that they're on almost every corner and you can easily stop in for 2 minutes to grab something while walking home. Getting out of a car is a little more ceremony albeit not bad if you're talking about a gas station as opposed to a walmart
