I don't doubt drudgery can be awful but @MorlockP finds farming most satisfying.
Perhaps the contrast between back-breaking serf labor and the satisfaction of creating something real and tangible?

Yes, which also makes it more rewarding. You might as well say that anything hard or challenging is "not worth it" because of these exogenous factors (not saying you're saying that necessarily but OP)
