2/ In 2021, books aren't on bookstore shelves. There's no official imprimatur that a book is "real". You type type type, you upload something to Amazon, you click a button...and...that's it. No publishing house to fly you to NYC and sign a contract, no agent to buy you lunch.

3/ You see some numbers on a screen and theoretically this means that someone has purchased a copy, but ... it's just things on a screen. You can even buy a copy yourself to feel the physical heft, but ... does that make it "real"?

4/ I've got an industrial laser printer and a few reams of paper. I can type any random crap I want into an emacs buffer, and print it out and I've got a "book". What's the difference between that and "really" having a book? Philosophically, I can't tell you, but ...
