2/ the scariest thing I've done with a gun is using it, clearing the chamber, being 100% sure I cleared the chamber, explicitly remembering that I cleared the chamber, deciding to triple check...and finding a round in the chamber I am still kind of freaked out by that

3/ in retrospect, what happened was that I slaughtered a downed sheep (barberpole worms), verified the sheep was dead (eyeball test), cleared the chamber...then saw a tremor in the sheep, thought that there was a 1% chance that it MIGHT still be alive, chambered another round >

4/ shot it again ...and apparently failed to clear the chamber the second time. So, that's how I both had a absolutely firm memory of clearing the chamber AND had a round in the chamber. Human failure...and it freaked me out. NDs are NOT normal or acceptable.

*learns to drive* 'Wonder WHEN (not if) my first crash will be?' ...what is this mindset called?
-
Well....I've heard with motorcycles that it's not if - but when you have to lay it down. But with driving in general- a lot of external factors you have minimal control over vice safe firearms handling.

Literal BS. We use clearing barrels for a reason but the expectation is that you have enough sense NOT to ND.
