Hey Walmart and Black&Decker: so I needed to order a new charger for the HPB18 batteries I use in my cordless drill, as the old one suffered a crunching. Google offered me at least a dozen alternatives to the OEM B&D version, all made in China, none more that $2 cheaper. WHY?

Shouldn't the OEM always appear near the top of the listings? Especially when the 3rd party stuff looks cheezzorama even in photos, is quite likely made by slave labor, and has written descriptions that are NOT reassuring about compatability or safety.

Why should it be actively harder to find the real product made by the original manufacturer (or at least licensed and presumably QC'd by them to whatever Chinese manufacturer) than to get an electrocution and fire hazard of dubious functionality made by some enslaved Uighur?

Replying to @JohnBarnesSF
99% of "market failures" aren't, but I'll agree that this one qualifies
