(Also, the top rail on the panelling is just some random moulding that showed up at the Habitat ReStore. But it was exactly what was needed. Base shoe I made myself out of 1"X2" stock)

This room, awkwardly, had an ugly bump-out from the master bedroom's closet. That bump-out, now masquerading as a fireplace, basically dictated the entire design of this wall.pic.twitter.com/6GwbMXMIom

I had intended to build a mantle & surround myself, even had a cut-list ready and materials ordered, when my mom found this one (at the Habitat ReStore, again), and gave it to me for a birthday present. It was a honey oak when I got it, but one modifies as one must.pic.twitter.com/D6kD5EoJUy

The cabinets above are my first fumbling venture into cabinetry. They'll get doors someday. The face-frame (and man scribing that to the ceiling took a while) is where much of the material for the mantle & surround I'd meant to build ended up.pic.twitter.com/j0MRRugI6V

The columns that flank the fireplace were being discarded by my hometown's college. Again requiring refinishing. Their plinth blocks, my friend & I made to imitate the style of the plinths that came out of the nun's residence.pic.twitter.com/8LiPiTdPYB

Oh, as long as we're talking about the nun's residence again. I had a LOT of this moulding, and in a few places I ripped it down to create a lighter profile for subsidiary elements, like around the window herepic.twitter.com/7JAcZQXorH

The niches to either side, then. I had, once again via Habitat ReStore, two very well-made cherry cabinets. I had to darken the finish, which I did imperfectly. I wanted a built-in desk on the left, and my friend & I built the two cubbies on the right to fill out the space.pic.twitter.com/gx3umtIWsS

(you will note there is a missing drawer. I may be able to use that random drawer body, but I'll order a face for it. Same time I order the cabinet doors for above the fireplace, I guess.)

And the bookcases. Oh, the bookcases. What a hassle, and nearly a disaster.pic.twitter.com/Xjx9QCyCcF

Where to start? First of all, the shelves are 1/16 thicker than normal. Doesn't seem like much, but seemed to make a difference when I plugged the numbers into a deflection calculator a bunch of cranky old guys who post on woodworking forums in all-caps recommended.pic.twitter.com/5i1n9cFt5g
