We'd do small pencil sketches in atelier to investigate pose, etc, before starting a painting, but these more finished, larger drawings are something I started doing after I finished school.

In part, they're something I do in preparation for a painting. Think of them as a rehearsal--it can be awfully nice to have already worked out a lot of your issues with light, proportion, and placement before you ever actually touch your paints.pic.twitter.com/6epUhSkx6M
