2/ the orange and red bars were reversed for me, I think Cornell took ~ 120 credits to graduate, I think. I had on the order of 1-2 CS classes per semester (4-8 credits, call it an average of 6), so 48 CS credits total. 2/3 of my undergrad was rando crap, 1/3 CS

3/ ehh college was super expensive, hugely depressing, and a massive waste of time it was the worst 5 years of my life - only reprieve was the year I took off in the middle when I worked at a local co)https://twitter.com/josecamoessilva/status/1461777543669985281 …

4/ This is not a recipe for a useful education; this is (a) a credentialling service for the striving-to-be-upper class, that has morphed into (b) a jobs program for professors teaching in areas no one cares about https://courses.cornell.edu/content.php?catoid=45&navoid=17977 …pic.twitter.com/WBbH72lOWw

5/ When someone walks into Home Depot and says "I'm installing a faucet, what do I need?" the salespeople do not sell him a car lift, a full set of mechanics tools, and a surveyor's transit "...because you might need 10% of it someday".https://twitter.com/josecamoessilva/status/1461778991581442062 …

7/ yeah, I guess, I kinda hated all of it there's a micro-subgenre in SF of "you die...and wake up in your 16 yo body back in 1983" (Replay by Grimwood, Rewrite by Benford) and when I ponder that scenario I always think "how can I get a job ASAP?"https://twitter.com/Isegoria/status/1461779583305461761 …

Depending on the college degree, 2-3 years may be a good investment (remove the red from the lower bar). The price is ridiculous, blame gov & finance. For most people to learn STEM\{pure math, some programming} there's really no alternative to some college-like institution.

the other problem is the black bar of the "on the job" section. maybe it's a bad idea to implicitly train people at university that 80% of time at work will be spent on useless filler
