I actually think that immersive events even wo VR can be sketchy. Intense bonding exercises, high pressure sales events, cult indoctrination... What I fear most is not VR tech, but A/B research and intermittent reinforcement

Yes! All else being equal: • Engaging more senses (smells and bells!) is more trance inducing than engaging fewer. • Getting you to comply with instructions (stand! kneel!), ditto. • Getting you to participate ("…For we have sinned against you.") as well.
