inside pretty much every device is a microprocessor with tens of thousands, if not tens of millions, of lines of code code often has an initialization step: - detect X - detect Y - detect Z - save params power cycle forces that to happen again, maybe getting correct valueshttps://twitter.com/freeshreeda/status/1453439270513938432 …

2/ often the list of parameters saved from initialization is much much much bigger than you later see exposed via the UI your TV might be checking power Hz (50 vs 60) V (120? 110? 105?) GPS (who knows!) cable provider, local network topology, state of all buttons,,,

3/ initialization isn't even just about real world stuff the stupid million line app in your shelf speaker starts up and ... detects what version of the SSL library, what version of the USB library, etc. are installed on the internal flash drive crazy the amount of logic

Prometheus 2.1 @wraithburnOnce more, from the top! Starting from the beginning clears any held state, and does every step of the process. Skipping things is quicker, but if you don't know where the problem is, you don't know if you are skipping over it. https://twitter.com/freeshreeda/status/1453439270513938432 …2 replies 0 retweets 9 likesShow this thread -

ⓘ Dogs don't have thumbs added,
SuperIronBob @SuperIronBobReplying to @MorlockPError correcting memory is (comparably) expensive, so non error correcting ram is used in consumer devices, which can accumulate errors that a power cycle clears. If it's not an error, some are sensitive to boot conditions and get locked in a mode; cycling lets it switch modes.2 replies 0 retweets 10 likesShow this thread -
