The more serious libertarian mags like The Freeman used to run articles on these topics. One article argued that zoning laws could be replaced with a more objective approach based on the principle of "coming to the nuisance." Not an urgent matter or a hill I want to die on.

Culture trumps legal systems. A town that enforces zoning laws in a corrupt manner would probably be just as corrupt under an alternate system.

Well, (and as is always the case) except in California. Numerous state agencies from the Coastal Commission to the Tax Credit Allocating Committee and the Bond Allocating Committee all lift their leg on zoning issues.
