My house (1909) used rough, true-to-size 2x4s, which is a hassle for me, because all the walls are an extra ½" thick and I can't just use off-the-shelf door jambs -_-

Back in High School I worked crew on a play. The teacher in charge at one point sent me to get some 2x4s. Twenty minutes later I went back and told him there weren't any, having measured everything in the stockroom. And that's when I learned that a 2x4 is not actually 2x4.
