So the liver allows a percentage of alcohol through, no matter how small the quantity? I was taught in school that your liver can 'take' one drink

There's a time lag between swallowing and the alcohol affecting your brain function, as it has to be absorbed into your bloodstream, etc. That time lag is pretty short, in my experience.
