Amazon consumes people in its frugality. This is true in the tech space, and it's true in the warehouses. I posit that this crosses the line out of amorality, but also understand why others wouldn't.

From what I remember when talking to a warehouse manager at a bachelor party, many in the warehouses are the type of people you need to keep an eye on and monitor to keep on task, and doing the task appropriately.

For those who don't need that kind of oversight it's oppressive and sounds excessive. When I worked in retail doing overnight stocking, my coworker disappeared and I thought she'd been moved to another area. A few hrs later she came back and had been naping on mulch in gardening

this is the core issue warehouse work isn't worth that much either Amazon is not a villain for saying "robots cost us $20/hr ... if you are willing to do it for $19, we'll pay you that"
