I am dusting off my notes for Aristillus 3 and 4, and - OMG - I am getting frankly intimated by the scope of this task (and how it's so much larger than my modest talents). Ari 1 and 2 were undertaken in ignorance, which helped me power through.

One thing I'll do is "recon by text" - write scenes that capture part of the story. These would be out of order and often get scrapped. It gives me a feel for where the priorities should be and what characters are like.

It also measures how fun a plot point is. If I have to force myself to write a bit, the solution may be to change the plot or skip past that part. "If it's boring to write, it'll be boring to read."

Hmmm. One last thought: Of those ~12 plotlines, are any of them self-contained enough to spin off into a novella of their own?
