2/ something like $200 to the Church, and then another $200 to the priest as a gift, then $3 in ingredients for the reception lunch (BLTs at our farm: home raised bacon, tomatoes, bread baked in our oven). 99% of the cost was a small kiln, gold for the rings, fabric for dress

My wife and I were in our early 20s when we got married. We did not have much money at the time and we had a relatively small wedding. I do think some people are discouraged from getting married because they feel like they don't have enough money, and that is unfortunate.

My costs were maybe twice that. We had a big lunch for the family in the Philippines, flights there and back for me, flight back for her, wedding rings purchased there, some costs to cover while her work ended, and gov fees for the visa process to the US.

Still super reasonable, kept everything low key and spread out over a period of time so it was manageable. There's no reason to spend 30k or more for the super special event that people try to do, like my brother's ex wife insisted on.

We did it tiny for a few hundred bucks. No regrets.
