The military generally wants to recruit from relatively young people. This means their advertising will inevitably reflect the weirdnesses of the cohort currently in their early twenties. *shrug* So it goes.

What weirdnesses did past cohorts reflect? The famous dragon ad might seem cringey now, but it at least accurately reflected that Marines a) negotiate obstacle courses b) fight stuff, and c) have swords.
