Hunting for the location of the dragon's lair and or orc settlements that is raiding the area. You can do both wilderness and urban encounters. Plus the chance for persuasion rolls to build a coalition and regional defence force.
I think the touring band as front is great, because it opens up even more of the unexpected comedy already inherent in dour dwarven bards. Imagine, maybe, two funerary chanters, one guy who drums time for secret forge-hammer techniques, and a guy who makes bells for export.
