Jeeze. Nowhere near as dark as this, but on one side of my family decades ago, the patriarch passed leaving no will. The seven children then fought for nearly *30 years* before resolving the division of the property. It took my grandparents suing to get things finished.

All of the siblings shared paying the property tax. But only some of them actually used the property to grow crops to sell. *They* made their money back, and more. Meanwhile, one of the siblings lived on the property, but could not farm, and had to raise 3 kids with no income.

Finally, it got to be too much for my grandfather to stand. He filed the suit... on behalf of his wife and her sister. He was *not* one of the siblings, his wife (my grandmother) was. She might also have let things go on forever if he hadn't put his foot down.
