3/ Cynically: it's blue tribe people who have, with their policies, ruined the blue tribe areas, and are now looking for some new area to colonize that isn't full of all of the things their policies create (low iq immigrants, black crime, drug abuse, rampant theft).

4/ Saying "i want to do X", while taking precisely zero steps to do X is an elaborate form of signaling an aesthetic sense. It's equivalent of pinning a picture of a small cabin to your Pinterest page.https://twitter.com/drethelin/status/1422406443190325248?s=19 …

On the one hand, comments like that infuriate me since I know plenty of intelligent, but perhaps "uneducated" people in the rural areas around the country that I've been in. OTOH, maybe this will discourage the types I don't want mucking everything up out here from coming.

I grew up very rural and still have rural relatives. I don't equate 'educated' with 'intelligent'. It's just that in a county of 6,000 people you are already starting with a thin pool. A lot of inteligent people have left for greener pastures.

Fwiw, I didn't mean that you were equating the two, though I see it might have come off that way. I was referring to the broader population that frequently does. And I get what you're saying, small population makes for slim pickings regardless of what you're looking for.

also, Elam is not JUST saying "small pool". He is also specifically calling out "brain drain", and I think he's absolutely right. A small percent of 95 IQ people leave the countryside for the city; a much higher percent of 130 IQ people do.

yes, this. And for sure it can be slightly different town to town. I grew up in two tons 12 miles apart (pop 1,300 & 2,000). For whatever reason the smaller one has kept a greater portion of my cohort and it makes a difference, BUT the brain drain is still a major factor.

most people don't go too far; a lot have ended up 1.5 hours away in the N 'burbs of Kansas City, but thats far enough.
