Impression I get from article is owner didn't mind squatter until he had to pay taxes on the cabin. Might be a case for adverse possession, but then squatter would jailed for not paying taxes. :(

Yep. Can’t be AP, because he claims permission. Can’t be a legal estate, because NH SoF requires a writing. Even if everything he says is true, he literally can’t have a protectable interest. Maybe *especially* if everything he says is true.

Quiet has a lot going for it, including externalities. PREDICTABLE but unfair land law ... BECOMES fair, bc everyone knows what to expect and acts accordingly.
