A popular tool for social predators (including, but not limited to, economic ones) is to muddle things up so there's no final resolution, and no one can really walk away. Nothing you have is really yours, because I touched it once, and my purposes are more important than yours.

Elizabeth Warren has a weird reputation as an intellectual, I guess just because she's an academic, but her demagoguery is unusually crude even compared to her peers', when you examine it closely.
