If I may dietsplain here: Liquor is easier on the blood sugar for those with insulin resistance like, say, most older people. Used to love Beer & still occasionally have a glass of wine. Both bang my blood sugar up. (recovering diabetic here.) A drink or two of whiskey, no.

I think earlier generations may have intuitively understood this. Now we can measure the effect directly. I used to enjoy a round of beers with friends when my liver worked fine. Can remember running from an MIT coop bar to Copley station after several pitchers. Now, nope.

I love good whiskeys, appreciate good wine, and like good beer. I rarely buy wine.

I think a lot of these food/drink arguments are really silly. After working outdoors in the heat, I want a beer. If I'm reading a good book, I want a whiskey. If I'm at a social event where there's wine, I'll quite happily drink wine, particularly if there's a Cabernet Sauvignon.
