And, things that you can reasonably get away with scot-free if you or a small group of people do it can end up catastrophic if done on a society-wide/systemic level. ESPECIALLY given ingroup-conformity in humans. Each person rejecting tradition increases chances more will do so.

Small and limited group of people rejecting tradition = useful experimentation/seeking better maxima. Most trad social structures even allow for such a thing, I wager. But it all relies on majority of participants being trad.
