"Its really more about" I've read two or three "right to repair laws", and I disagree with the above assertion. If you've got a specific RTR law that you think the above applies to, please provide a link and I'll read the text of the law.

I don't follow the US legal process closely. I'm British. I just think the way i expressed it is the problem that exists. DMCA just made it possible to make a criminal complaint out of reverse engineering someone else's device for them.

> I don't follow the US legal process closely ok, well, I can't / won't speak to some hypothetical "what the 'spirit' of right-to-repair laws is" topic. The "spirit" of any piece of legislation comes in two flavors, and both are propaganda. Reading actual text of laws is good.

The US legal process just isn't very interesting to Foreigners
Maintenance and vehicle health management is my research area however. 3rd party repair barriers isn't just a problem for the general public. Lots of problems in 3rd party MRO work as well.2 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -
> The US legal process just isn't very interesting to Foreigners oh, I assumed it was interesting, as you tagged into a discussion of it and gave your opinions

I'm not suggesting manufacturers should be forced to publish manuals and schematics. It's just one of the signals of a quality product if they do. Sadly less products are high quality these days ...

I think right to repair is more closely coupled to the debate regarding ownership of devices vs using them. In particular whether we really own our devices if we can't arrange or own repair with 3rd parties. This also relates to what we can do with them.https://boingboing.net/2012/08/23/civilwar.html …

> is more closely coupled to I have no idea what that means. Right to repair is a specific set of laws, and bills for new laws. You've said that you haven't read them. I said that editorials on the topic are propaganda. You ... link to Boing Boing. >>>

Isn't all opinion propaganda on some level? What you refer to as right to repair is just not aligned to what I see it as. That article is not recent...

> Isn't all opinion propaganda on some level? absolutely which is why I urge people to skip it and read the actual laws, not what one side or another is saying about them

Yeah but your laws mean very little to me... I'm a subject of Her Britannic Majesty Queen Elisabeth the 2nd.

but if there was some new British law about topic XYZ, which I am not subject to, I have three options: * say nothing * read an editorial about it, have an opinion about the "spirit" of the law * read the law itself, have an opinion about the text of the law I suggest #2 is bad
