Its really more about 3rd party repair services and tool supply. DMCA and related laws making it very difficult for 3rd parties to reverse engineer in order to offer service or upgrades to your property for you if the manufacturer objects.

"Its really more about" I've read two or three "right to repair laws", and I disagree with the above assertion. If you've got a specific RTR law that you think the above applies to, please provide a link and I'll read the text of the law.

is it? ours is an old 6020 combine, we use 2 old 4020s on our hobby farm, so I don't know, but from what I hear, you need a certified JD, i.e. from a dealer, tech to work on the new computerized stuff. This is different from a car, where any mechanic with a computer can diagnose

and fix your car. I'll admit, I don't have deep knowledge of the "right to repair" issue, because....6600 combine and 4020 tractors

Quibble: IIUC John Deere has actually gone after some of their customers for repairing tractors (bc it involved cracking their DRM)?

Also other manufacturers are specifically making things harder to repair than they could or should be. Apple is especially responsible for doing things like this which is why I don't buy their hardware anymore.
