It would suffer from the same issues as monowheels so it would need to employ the same solutions for steering like ground-friction pads. If you wanted to change the design entirely you could split the track down the middle and drive both sides independently like a tank.
you could have the center three road wheels move left and right if there's enough play in the track would have to be careful not to walk the track off, but should work in theory
