the South, as a whole, is not pro-liberty read some Albion's Seed the south was settled by two tribes: tidewater aristocracy who LIKE hierarchy and authority, and Scots Irish, who are schizophrenic re liberty at best ( "I have the right to speed & litter but thin blue line")https://twitter.com/braxton_mccoy/status/1401752976851574786 …

My whole thing is that the liberty types need the south to wake the hell up. The intermountain west and the south need to band together but right now the SEC folks are like a damn egg shell comforter covered in towelettes labeled "Bubba's BBQ"

2/ the west is more libertarian than most other areas I don't expect the south to "wake up" and show their libertarianism because...the culture as a whole is not libertarian

The division is court vs country, not authority vs liberty

Scots Irish don't like outside governing authority (Feds, The Crown) They LOVE local governing authorities, like cops and March Law. They're the descendents of the most insane scots Irish who were already the most insane borderers. Theyre not going to fall in line on principal

Look, they're rowdy, theyre contradictory, they can't even get organized enough to be anarchists, but theyre the best soldiers in history. Leave Appalachian Arrakis alone.

Although I don't know that any of the four main groups are really pro-liberty. I think liberty arose as something of a compromise, perhaps. "We all want our own petty tyrannies, so how about we leave the government out of it?"

All pro-liberty, but with 4 conflicting definitions of "liberty". Hackett-Fischer went into detail on this point. Part of the point of federalism was to allow the conflicting liberties to co-exist without clashing.

I think the Scotts-Irish culture views justice in melodramatic terms: Life/death, damnation/salvation, titanic manichean struggle, life-defining character. They're offended when the law is petty, nudgy, snoopy, or bureaucratic, but not when it's cracking the heads of evildoers.
