The fetish for nature that some people have today is only possible in a society that comprehensively protects them from its threats.

IME not really. It doesn't take much protection to live in the wilderness, it's not especially difficult. People do suffer from e.g. losing their land to flood damage with no insurance, but it doesn't seem to stop love of nature.

I half agree w OP. It's easy to IFL NATURE! when you've got GPS, cell phone, batteries, first aid kit, park rangers w helicopters, etx. A fetish is an erotic attachment to an unrealistic simplification. In 2021 people IFL-nature, whereas in 1921, 1821, 1721 they respected it.

I guess not enough info on what kind of fetish it is. Definitely the anprim hippie & farmer types I grew up around were more zealous about environmentalism and such than anyone I've met in the city.

I've got theories. I don't claim they're absolutely certainly true.
