I do the same for exercise. I should apply it to other things. It's harder for things I don't like to do as much, like having to write documentation or writing in general. Once I start it's not so bad, but high activation energy for me.

I think I need to find a way to make it higher friction to stop once I've started. I think that's why it works with exercise

It's not just for overcoming laziness either: Most big jobs have those phases where everything goes sideways and all of a sudden you realize you've been thrashing for an hour with zero progress. Stop and clean everything up. Sixty percent of the time, it works every time.
