12/ 1) trees have a finite lifespan; this keeps being skipped over 2) your subjective appreciation IS an acknowledgement of value 3) if we don't quanitify than we make decisions at random / via intuition (and thus they are likely bad decisions)https://twitter.com/meta_nomad/status/1397879370048475145 …

I don't see the opposite of not-value as implicitly a waste. I guess in Libertarian terms, my subjective appreciation of that tree alive and standing will always override it as some table.

14/ OK, but this comes back to revealed preferences. You could do a job that's less fun and generates more income which you could use to "appreciate nature". Or you could run a podcast and say that other people should do X. >>> https://twitter.com/meta_nomad/status/1397880540481662983 …

16/ All of life is tradeoffs. A tree either rots or is logged. An individual either does a fun job and has less power over his environment, or has a grinding job and has more power to manage land.https://twitter.com/HorrorsGreeley/status/1397881538927267840 …

17/ Agreed. I've got a few massive tree trunks in my forest, on their side, 3/4 rotted and covered with moss. On the one hand, sure, aesthetic...but on the other, that coulda been a timber framed workshop or a kitchen table for a family.https://twitter.com/EricRichards22/status/1397881410548084736 …

It really is that simple. You like trees? Buy forest and let it be. You like forests? Buy forests and let it be in timescales that are as long as forests. Maybe you need a foundation or corporation or nation state to make it happen https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finnish_Nature_Heritage_Foundation …
