as much as I dislike taxes, when Jesus and a twitter friend disagree on the morality of taxes, I'm going to go with Jesushttps://twitter.com/AHelleneAuthor/status/1394755255716483076 …

Feels like there might be some room between "this is not an effective or efficient tax policy" and "this is literally written by the devil and his angels."

I’m just a dumb atheist but wasn’t the point that this world is broken so just deal with it and focus on what is important living a good Christian life and the next world.?

exactly this Jesus didn't care about tax policy, and didn't care if people were rich or poor. He cared about the state of their souls. This is a pretty damned basic point of Christianity, and seeing people flub it is ... distressing.

I'd push back against the idea that Jesus' main concern was getting people to the next world... You'll find that in the Gospels, but I'd argue that his main concern is the here and now. Or, put another way, "eternity starts now."

But here and now doesn’t mean messing around with the state -we see how well that turns out a few years later in the Jewish Revolt. More love your neighbor, share the gospel, keep faith in Christ, care for each other and the needy.

As I said I am not a believer but influenced by Carrier’s view of Christianity as community self help in the face of an unjust Roman world. Yes, you might be a slave but in God’s eyes you are as valuable as the master and his riches and power are not what is important.
