I'm a huge Tolkien nerd and I couldn't even watch beyond the first Hobbit movie. Maybe this will avoid the mistakes made there, but I see no reason to think so.

True. But my confidence in filmmakers' ability to to do shit without flooding it with SJW BS has diminished a lot since then. Still, you never know. Mandalorian defied expectations and didn't suck. Maybe this will be similar.

My fear isn't mulit-culti twisting, but just getting another dark and moody green screen series populated with modestly talented, low charisma actors whose characters have no discernible personality or relatable motivation.
