Consequence of believing this argument is that the two nukes lose all pragmatic arguments and USA looks evil and bad. Shockingly, it's mostly people who hate the US who accept this point of view.

There's a significant population trying to wish away that the nuclear bombs (in particular, plutonium bombs like Fat Man, which could be manufactured more rapidly) were the main reason for the Japanese surrender.
